NDP 09 Comes Together As One Show

Anchored on our National Pledge, National Day Parade (NDP) 09 will be creatively woven together as One Show. The One Show concept brings together the various segments of NDP, including the traditionally disparate Parade and Ceremony segment, to create a unified storyline for the audience. Tying the show together is our National Pledge. With each of the 10 chapters based on an excerpt of the Pledge, this year’s show is a signal to Singaporeans to look at the obstacles we have overcome, our achievements and our growth, and to look to the future with hope and optimism.

NDP 09 promises to be an engaging and meaningful experience for audiences both at the Marina Bay Floating Platform and at home. With various NDP firsts and traditional crowd favourites paired together, NDP 09 promises to be an exciting visual and musical celebration of Singapore’s 44th birthday.

Key Highlights

Theme Song – For the first time, the theme song is composed and performed by a local band, Electrico. Titled “What Do You See?” the theme song is a question directed at all Singaporeans and is a rousing call to look beyond the surface, to ‘see’ into the future, envision, imagine, dream and hope. Enhanced Night Visual Effects – With a later starting time of 6.00 pm, PiGi projections and LED mesh screens will deliver multimedia content that, combined with special lighting effects, will wow the audience.

Soundtrack Of Our Lives – Incorporating tunes, jingles and speeches of iconic and historical significance, NDP 09’s soundtrack is bound to strike a chord with Singaporeans across all generations.

Pledge Moment – With the National Pledge as the anchor of NDP 09, this year’s parade will culminate in a meaningful moment as Singaporeans from all walks of life come together to recite the pledge.

First time features and performers would also include:

1. A mobile Combined Schools Choir;
2. 20 Large Puppets arriving on large white boats;
3. 24 Performing Podiums located throughout the spectator stands;
4. Performers performing on large high-rise grids totaling 8 storeys;

NDP 09 is conceptualised by the NDP Show Committee and the Creative Team in collaboration with the participating organisations. About 6,000 people, including parade participants from military and civilian contingents, will Come Together to make NDP 09 a success.
