NDP CELEBRATIONS 09 - LET'S GET INVOLVED!

NDP 09 centres on reaching out to all Singaporeans, to celebrate and reflect upon what it means to be Singaporeans, and our collective aspirations as a nation. We believe that National Day is not only about the NDP on 9 August itself. While the Parade remains the focal point in commemorating our independence, National Day is also about us celebrating our Singapore Story.

National Day Celebrations hence brings together a coordinated series of public engagement activities, outreach projects and public events to allow all Singaporeans to get involved and participate in the nation’s birthday celebrations. Working with various public agencies and private sector partners, NDP 09 hopes to engage and involve all Singaporeans in the NDP journey and be participants in NDP 09. So we invite Singaporeans to take part to Express, Explore, Connect, Care and Celebrate!

Express! - From as early as April, Singaporeans can express their personal reflections and thoughts in words, pictures or videos through a series of activities, contests and outreach projects. We welcome every level of expertise to come in and join us. These personal reflections will be featured as part of NDP09, be it on our websites, public exhibitions or even the parade itself.

Connect! - National Day Celebrations also include reaching out to our fellow Singaporeans. With the increasing prevalence of new media, NDP 09 seeks to engage Singaporeans, locally as well as in overseas, also in a series of new media platforms. Hosted on our popular NDPeeps website, these platforms allow everyone to connect with other Singaporeans.

Explore! – Closer in Jul, National Day Celebrations also aims to encourage Singaporeans to explore more deeply various aspects of our nationhood. Discover where we come from, who we are or get a special behind-the-scene look at how NDP is made possible.

Care! - We also do not forget the less fortunate and disadvantaged in society. Partnering our charities and the media, we would provide platforms for Singaporeans to come together and care for our fellow Singaporeans.

Celebrate! - National Day Celebrations culminate in the National Day Parade 09 at the Marina Bay floating platform. For those who are lucky to have gotten the coveted tickets, you're in for a marvelous feast of colors and sound. For those who don’t, you can still immerse yourself in the festivities, in the Marina Bay area as well as in the heartlands. In many ways, the parade will also be brought to the public. You can even celebrate in cyberspace through a virtual celebration on National Day.

More details of Explore, Care and Celebrate would be made available from July. But let’s start now by Expressing our Singaporean-ness, and Connecting with other Singaporeans. These initiatives have already commenced and people are coming on board. So join us as we celebrate our nation’s 44th Birthday. Let’s get involved!
