All set to go@ Show Countdown Rally

There was excitement in the air as throngs of people made their way into The Float@Marina, VIP Lounge for the Countdown Rally on 6 May 09. This was a well deserved break for NDP participants and committee as the countdown to the Nation’s birthday has now dwindled to mere 94 days. The music in the background could not mask the anticipation in the participants and they were duly rewarded when the hosts finally appeared and kick-started the event by inviting Drum Fest to perform. Drum Fest scored with a loud and energetic performance that resonated with the upbeat mood of the participants.

This was followed by a rousing speech from Chairman of the NDP show committee, LTC Desmond Tan, that promised this year show to be titillating and exciting, with plenty of new elements that would thrill the audience. LTC Desmond also encouraged and motivated the participants in their increasingly hectic preparations. “If we work with our hearts, we will not fail,” he quipped.

Thereafter, the participants proceeded for a hearty dinner and mingled with each other. The event ended on a high note with a series of games and video clips before the hosts invited Mr Ivan Heng, Creative Director, to address the participants where he underlined how honored it was to be part of the show, and the exciting prospect of working with 7000 other participants.

BG Tan Chuan-Jin, Chairman of the Executive Committee, then rounded of the event by reiterating the importance of getting all Singaporeans to be involved in the celebration of the Nation’s birthday, “….the use of new media as platforms for voices to be heard,” he said. He further explained the significance of this year’s NDP by saying, “The show without heart and soul is just entertainment…The show is only important if there is meaning.”

With such high involvement of Singaporeans and great effort from the team, one can certainly look forward to this year’s show to be a great success.
