The rehearsals have finally begun! Before we know it, 3 combined rehearsals had come and gone. The pace of work has certainly increased significantly and the NDP Express is turning into the final lap as we race towards our destination on 9 August.
On each rehearsal day, I walked around the Bay and are greeted by highly energetic and keenly motivated participants. Whether they are from the Parade contingents, Show performances, Security or Logistic support groups, they all share a common trait – the desire to put in their best efforts in their respective area of work.
I am truly convinced that if we continue to maintain this high level of motivation and commitment, NDP 2008 will be a stunning and exciting parade for the thousands of Singaporeans whether they are watching the parade “live” at the Marina Bay, at home on the television sets or in overseas on the Internet. It will also be a memorable and defining experience for all participants.
To achieve this desired outcome, we must be prepared to persevere and continue to fine tune our performances and coordination. For performers, every step and action must be carried out in unison to convey the unity and energy of the dance and performance. For support personnels, individual actions and inactions must be tightly coordinated to ensure efficient and effective results. For leaders on the ground, we need to be acutely aware of what is happening and what can potentially happen to provide supervision and make swift decisions to ensure smooth conduct of the parade. In short, everyone has to play their part to make the parade successful.
As we count down towards 9 August, I want to thank everyone in the NDP team for your dedication and patience. We have walked this far together and we want to finish this journey on a high. Let us “Celebrate the Singapore Spirit” in style!
