NDP 2008 - Go Green
Great value is often associated with a clean city. A clean city is a strong reflection of our moral and civic values. But clean cities do not just come by chance. They require much responsibility and dedication to maintain.
The development of our public health system over the years has contributed much to Singapore’s status as a ‘clean and green’ city. However, public education remains a crucial aspect in the sustainability of a clean environment. Supported by the National Environment Agency, NDP’08 Organizing Committee has implemented various “litter-free” initiatives for this year’s NDP celebration to encourage the spectators to keep the Marina Seating Gallery “litter-free”.
Initiatives implemented include:
- Display of “litter-free” messages at NDP'08 website
- Provision of litterbags in fun pack
- Provision of disposal structures at exit routes
- Emcee announcement during pre-parade segment
- Screening of animation on “litter-free” during pre-parade segment
- "Bag It To Win It!" Lucky Draw
- "Act Now! Just Bin It!" Video Contest for primary schools attending the NE Shows
For NE Shows held on 5 and 12 Jul 08, most students were observed to use the litterbag provided in the fun pack to pack their litter and dispose those litterbags into the designated disposal structures at the end of the Shows. Teachers were also observed collecting loose litter into big trash bags. As a result of these efforts, the general cleanliness of the Marina Seating Gallery has improved significantly compare to previous years.

We would like to express our thanks to all the students and teachers who have participated in the 2 NE Shows for their efforts in keeping the Marina Seating Gallery clean. We would also like to encourage the spectators attending subsequent NDP Shows to adopt these good practices and keep the Marina Seating Gallery clean.
Happy National Day 2008!
