Before The Parade … There Was the Pre-Parade

-by Kelvin Yang

Think NDP 2008 only begins with the entry of the Marching Contingent, or the lights and splendour of the Show performers? Think again. The Pre-Parade segment kicks off NDP 2008 proper, and features a whole host of captivating performances.

The first of the performers to enter is the NDP 2008 Combined Schools Choir. With dance steps choreographed by Choir Dance Choreographer Sylvia McCully and conducted by Choir Conductor Lennie Chua, the 400-student-strong choir will perform a variety of NDP songs. The 300 student motivators, whose moves are choreographed by Ban Jiun Ean, make their entry too in the Pre-Parade segment and will energise the audience throughout NDP 2008.

24 Wheelchair Dancers, whose moves are fashioned by choreographer William Tok, then make their appearance on stage, showing that faith and determination empower us to overcome obstacles. Did not get enough of dancing? Well directly after that 530 Line Dancers emerge to show that being young at heart is all that matters. Their moves are choreographed by Vincent & Felicia Chia.

With all the dance and music, surely some cheering is in order. To satisfy the need for some noise are 320 student cheerleaders, moves choreographed by Damian Ng making their explosive entry to inject excitement into the Saturday evening mood.

Aside from all these and the Bayshow, choreographed by Laurence Wong, there will also be other features like the Red Lions and the Precision Drills.

Evening takes on a whole new meaning here at the Pre-Parade segment of NDP 2008. So be sure to come early and keep your eyes peeled!
